Oneonta Middle School

Committed to Excellence for our Students and Community

OMS Welcome

  • Dear Oneonta Middle School Community,

I want to extend a very warm welcome to the students and parents of Oneonta Middle School.  The middle school years are an exciting time when children embark upon new adventures in the world of learning.  Each year provides important transitions and acquisitions of new skills.  I value the social and emotional development of each child as they transition through early adolescence. Oneonta Middle School is committed to providing a challenging, rigorous curriculum and a safe environment for students to develop.

As the principal of OMS, I believe that it is my responsibility to build and maintain a supportive and collaborative spirit at our school.  Together as a school community, we will build on the traditions of the past and meet the challenges of the future in innovative and exciting ways. Our students' success is attributed to the partnership and the relationships we build within our community, and this is more important now than ever. It truly does take a village to raise a child, and at Oneonta Middle School, we value teamwork and collaboration! Education is a joint venture and Team OMS greatly appreciates the support you provide for your children.

    Thank you!

    Leigha Rogers
    OMS Principal

  • Transition to remote learning - traditional students return January 12, 2021.

Due to the increased number of COVID cases and quarantines, as well as staffing and substitute issues, the Oneonta City School System will transition to remote learning for all students beginning Monday, December 14 through Friday, December 18.  Winter Break will begin on Monday, December 21, 2020, through Monday, January 4, 2021.  Students will continue with remote learning beginning Tuesday, January 5 through Monday, January 11, 2021.  Students will return to traditional learning on Tuesday, January 12.

If your student is exposed to COVID or is tested positive for COVID during the next four weeks, please report this data to the school nurse and principal using our form on the district and school websites.  The reporting form can be found near the top of the homepage in the red channel bar in the COVID Reporting channel.

Students that have been remote learners during the first semester should make sure that their school administration knows their learning option for the second semester.  If you have not been in touch with your school administrator, please do so immediately to declare your intent for learning for the second semester (traditional or remote).  Students that choose remote learning in January will be allowed to return to traditional learning for the 4th nine weeks (beginning March 17).

Meal pickup will continue during our remote time.  Meals may be picked up in the back of the school on Monday, December 14, Friday, December 18, Monday, January 4, and Monday, January 11.  All pickup times are from 10:00 to 11:00 a.m.

Making our schools a healthy and safe environment that provides a high quality education to all students is our primary goal.  The extended time out of the building will allow for a longer quarantine period for anyone who might be exposed or contract the virus during the holidays.  We urge everyone to continue to follow all appropriate measures of health and safety during the holidays and remote learning time.

  • CHROMEBOOK FEE DEADLINE NOVEMBER 13

For the 2020-21 school year, Oneonta students in grades 6 through 12 are required to pay the annual $40 technology fee that has been in place for the past several years.

For households with more than one student in grades 6 through 12, the fee is $40 for the first student and $25 for each additional student in the household.

In an effort to alleviate the burden to households, we have extended the deadline for these fees to be paid. This year, all technology fees are students in grades 6 through 12 must be paid by Friday, November 13, 2020.  Fees may be paid online through eSchoolPayments or remitted to the local school office.

Submission of the fee is required for students to have access to the district network and devices.

    Thank you.
