• About Mrs. Powell

I am originally from Jacksonville, Alabama.  I received my bachelor’s degree from Jacksonville State University, and my master's degree from the University of Montevallo.

After graduating from college and teaching for 5 years, I became a stay-at-home mom for 10 years and loved every minute of it!  As my kids grew older, I resumed my teaching career.  In Jefferson County, I taught 7th grade English and Pre-AP English for 6 years.  This is my eighth year at Oneonta Middle School.

My husband, Nelson, and I have been married for 30 years.  We have two children,  Destinee and Ko.  Destine is a graduate of Troy University, and she is based in Dallas as an American Airlines flight attendant.  Ko is a graduate of Oneonta and a former member of the 2013 State Championship football team and 2016 State Runner-up baseball team. Currently, Ko is a graduate from Auburn Montgomery with a Bachelor's of Accounting and minor in finance, and a Master's of Accounting.   Currently, he is working on his CPA while working at Carr, Riggs, and Ingram in Oneonta. My fur baby, Gandee, is a black lab with a friendly, upbeat personality, but she is SPOILED rotten!

I love reading books, gardening with herbs and flowers, basking in the sunshine at the pool, listening to music, relaxing with yoga or a long nature walk, watching The Food Network, and cooking some scrumptious meals.  I love teaching because it keeps me young and in touch with kids, our next generation.
