Beginning on Monday October 4, OCS will transition to masks / face coverings preferred and recommended but not required. Students will be required to keep a mask with them in the event that a teacher should require a mask for a particular activity, (i.e. small group work with students working closely together for an extended period of time). Administrators will coordinate with teachers for masks to be available for each classroom.Masks / face coverings will continue to be required at all times while adults and students are being transported on a school bus. This remains a requirement of the Department of Transportation, (Federal and State Requirement).I want to thank you for your support and efforts during the past few weeks regarding the mask / face covering requirements. We have been able to keep our schools open which has been our hope and goal. I hope that we can continue to do so. We have seen our numbers related to sickness decrease significantly during this time. We will continue to monitor COVID related illness and hope that we can continue to use masks as an option but not a requirement.

MASK/FACE COVERING EXTENDED THROUGH SEPTEMBER 27, 2021 - posted 9-7-2021
Due to the high positivity rate of Covid cases in our community, the mask/face covering requirement for students and employees of Oneonta City Schools has been extended through September 27, 2021.
TUESDAY, AUGUST 31, 2021 REMOTE LEARNING DAY
Due to the threat of inclement weather, Oneonta City Schools will be closed and students will participate in remote learning on Tuesday, August 31, 2021. Staff members will also work remotely.
Please remain weather aware and monitor conditions during this time.
MASK/FACE COVERING REQUIRED AUGUST 23 THROUGH SEPTEMBER 7, 2021.
Beginning Monday, August 23 through Tuesday, September 7, Oneonta City Schools will require all individuals to wear a mask or face covering while inside the school buildings. Students will not be required to wear a face covering while participating in physical education, band or music and sporting events. By wearing a mask / face covering, we are not required by the Alabama Department of Public Health to contact trace and we feel that this will help our schools remain open during this COVID surge. At this time, we are seeing an increase in positive COVID cases in our schools and in particular an increase with our elementary students. Our priority is the safety of our students and employees. In light of the increase of cases and the threat to our students’ age group, we are following the recommendations of pediatric medical professionals to protect our students and employees. You can help protect our Redskin family by keeping your students at home if they are sick or if anyone in your household tests positive for COVID.
On Monday, August 30, the Oneonta City Board of Education will meet in the Oneonta High School auditorium at 5:30 pm to allow community members to share thoughts, concerns or ask questions. The board will again meet on Tuesday, September 7 at 5:30 pm to decide further actions regarding COVID protocol for our schools.
This message will also be posted on our district school website.
